Poodle Weight Calculator

How big will your Poodle get? Calculate predicted adult weight for Toy, Miniature, Moyen, and Standard Poodles with a growth chart.

How Big Will My Poodle Get?

Poodles come in four recognized sizes: Toy (4-6 lbs), Miniature (12-20 lbs), Moyen or Medium (20-30 lbs, not AKC recognized), and Standard (40-70 lbs). Adult size is largely determined by genetics and reliably predictable from puppy growth patterns. The standard veterinary approach is to compare current weight against the breed growth curve to estimate adult weight, which is what this calculator does.

Most Poodles reach their full adult height by 12 months. Toy and Miniature Poodles also reach their full adult weight around 10-12 months. Standard Poodles take longer to fill out muscle and chest depth, often continuing to add weight until 18-24 months even though they have reached their final height much earlier.

This calculator combines a standard canine growth curve (relative percentage of adult weight at each age in months) with variety-specific weight ranges to produce a personalized adult weight prediction. Accuracy improves significantly with age: predictions from 6 months onward are typically within 5-10% of true adult weight.

How big do Poodles get?

Adult weight depends on variety: Toy Poodles 4-6 lbs and under 10 inches; Miniature Poodles 12-20 lbs at 10-15 inches; Moyen Poodles 20-30 lbs at 15-18 inches (not AKC recognized); Standard Poodles 40-70 lbs at 15+ inches tall.

Toy and Miniature Poodles reach full adult weight by 10-12 months. Standard Poodles reach adult height by 12 months but continue filling out muscle and chest until 18-24 months. Moyen Poodles finish around 14 months.

How can I tell what variety of Poodle I have?

Variety is determined by adult height. Pedigree records or breeder identification is most reliable. Weight estimates from puppy size become reliable after 4 months.

What is a Moyen Poodle?

Moyen (French for medium) Poodles fall between Miniature and Standard, typically 20-30 lbs. Recognized in Europe but not separately recognized by the AKC.

How much should a 6-month-old Poodle weigh?

At 6 months, most Poodles are approximately 75% of adult weight. Toy 3-4.5 lbs, Miniature 9-15 lbs, Moyen 15-23 lbs, Standard 30-53 lbs.

Why is my Poodle bigger than the breed standard?

Usually reflects breed-line variation, sex (males 10-20% heavier than females), or possibly a different variety than originally identified. Have body condition assessed by your vet.

When should I switch my Poodle from puppy food to adult food?

Toy/Miniature at 10-12 months; Moyen at 12-14 months; Standard at 18-24 months. Standard Poodles benefit from large-breed puppy formulas for longer.

What is the healthiest weight for a Poodle?

The lower end of the breed standard range with ideal body condition (ribs easily felt with light pressure, defined waist). Lean Poodles consistently live longer than overweight Poodles.

Do Poodles continue to grow after 1 year old?

Standard Poodles continue to fill out (muscle, chest broadening) until 18-24 months even though height is set by 12 months. Smaller varieties are typically full mature size by 12-14 months.
